Christian Aid

The Church of the Good Shepherd supports the work of Christian Aid particularly through door-to-door collections during Christian Aid Week (usually May). In so doing we are inspired by these words of Jesus in Matthew 25 verse 40:

I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

This year, as well as the door to door collection, this church held a collection at a special Parish Communion Service at which we heard more about Christian Aid's work. The total amount raised during Christian Aid week was an amazing £1,775.95. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this total, and to our volunteer collectors who went out in all weathers to deliver donation envelopes and knock on doors.

Every pound donated will help to improve somebody’s life! The cash will support Christian Aid’s work with over 600 partner organisations worldwide. Christian Aid helps people of all faiths and none. Money is spent in responding to humanitarian emergencies, most recently in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Gaza; and in long term development projects to help people to get out of the cycle of poverty and to adapt to climate change. In Malawi for example, where erratic weather caused by climate change is leading to crop failures and a real danger of famine, Christian Aid is supporting an irrigation project using solar energy so that more diverse crops can be grown. Christian Aid also campaigns on issues such as climate change and trade justice. If you want to know more about how your money is spent, visit www.christianaid.org.uk/getinvolved/christianaidweek and watch the video.

If you missed the envelope and still want to donate, you can do so online at www.christianaid.org.uk or telephone 020 7523 2225.

God of love, who is love,
Melt my indifferent heart of stone.
Open my eyes to your children’s suffering
And lift my head to see your perfect love again.
Work a miracle in my life
That through your Spirit
And my softened heart’s obedience
I might give myself to keep hope alive,
And to be the change you require.
Amen.
