The Church Family

  Reverend Gail Souppouris - Priest-in-Charge

I've been the Priest in Charge here since November 2008 and hope to be here for many years to come! Kyri and I moved from South London where we'd lived for the past 33 years and haven't regretted it for one moment. I spent most of my adult life working in the social care sector - as a Care Manager for Social Services, as the Manager of a variety of projects for charities, and for seven years as an Inspector of Care Homes - before starting to train for Ordination in my late 40's. Kyri and I have four children and one grandson.

Derek HansenDerek Hansen - Treasurer and Reader

I moved to Shoreham Beach, just opposite the Church of the Good Shepherd, in 1965 and, after a year or two I was invited to go to Church. I really haven't escaped since and now I don't want to! I was licensed as a Reader in 1987, and served on the Diocesan Reader's Committee as Honorary Secretary for 5 years. I was invited to contribute, and later produced, the weekday output of Thought for the Day on BBC Radio Sussex and, later to help produce and present the Sunday Morning output on BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Southern Counties for a number of years. My wife Caroline, two delightful children and five grandchildren try to keep me in order.

Sally Excell - Reader, Head of Pastoral Care & Healing, Bible Study Leader

I have lived on Shoreham Beach since March 1968 first in Woodards View, then in River Close and now in Beach Road.  You either love the Beach and stay here or can't cope with the wind and move away quite quickly.  I have worshipped at the Church of the Good Shepherd for most of that time although at times intermittently.
We experienced renewal in our Church in the early 1980's and I was licensed as a Reader in 1988 and since that time have been involved in preaching, leading Bible Study and other study groups and also very involved in the Healing Ministry and pastoral visiting.  Four years ago I underwent Funeral Training and am now licensed to conduct funerals. I love being part of the Christian family at the Church of the Good Shepherd and hope that anyone reading this will be encouraged to come to join us

 Linda Townsend - Churchwarden

I became a Christian by asking Jesus to be my personal saviour at the age of 13 and was baptised by full emersion at the age of 14. Since then I have not always paid attention to what God had planned for me – but wisdom comes with age! I am now 57 years old and live in Atlantic Court on Shoreham Beach. I retired 18 months ago after a 33 year career in the banking sector, since retiring I work as a volunteer at St Barnabas Hospice in Durrington and Link Romania in Worthing. I have been coming to the Church of the Good Shepherd for five years now and became a member four years ago. Before joining this parish I searched around for a place of worship and as soon as I came through the doors of COGS I knew that I was in the right place, and that this was where God wanted me to be. Over the past three years I have been involved with Bible Study, Choir, Christian Aid, Cleaning and Gardening and was elected as Churchwarden last year.

Jenny Marshall, PCC Secretary, Parish Administrator and Bible Study Leader

I have lived in Shoreham since 1971, moving to the Beach some 25 years ago.   My two sons and I were baptized and confirmed here at the Good Shepherd. and I have been a regular ever since.  During the recent vacancy I became the Parish Adminstrator, and continue this as a voluntary role.   I have been PCC secretary for several years, and was Churchwarden for a time.  Five years ago I married my husband Jonathan, who is currently Churchwarden, in the Church with most of the congregation present - a wonderful occasion.

 Revd Canon Tony Thompson

Over many years, I viewed Shoreham-by-Sea from the river, on countless canoeing trips. I finally came to live here, with my wife, Chris, when I retired from full-time ministry in 2003. Here at the Church of the Good Shepherd I am happy to be able to preach, lead worship, train children in puppetry, and help with our home groups. In the wider church, I am Chairman of SEAN International ( http://www.seaninternational.com/ ) which plays a major role in training Church leaders, by Extension, in many countries around the world. In my spare time I enjoy scuba-diving, kayaking, allotment gardening, visiting our children and grand-children, and playing the piano accordion.
