Fifth Sunday after Trinity
Sea Sunday
9th July 2023
This Sunday we have a focus on Sea Sunday and the work of the Mission to Seafarers, an Anglican welfare charity. It has a presence in 200 ports in 50 different countries worldwide and is the largest seaport-based welfare organisation in the world. It provides support to seafarers, regardless of their rank, nationality, gender, or religion. Our collection this Sunday will go towards their work. We hope you can join us.

September Retreat Morning – just a few places left Our second summer retreat morning is based in the church, vicarage garden and on Shoreham beach. It begins with some group time, and seeds sown for contemplation. There will then be space for individual quiet on the beach or in church/garden. Art materials are provided, plus other resources for those who wish to make use of them. We finish with lunch (simple vegetarian food provided). The morning is led by Canon Tim Higgins TSSF, who for many years has been a Tertiary in the Franciscan religious community. He recently moved to Shoreham following time spent on the Celtic pilgrimage coast of the Llyn Peninsula coast of North Wales. His prior work as an Anglican Priest was as City Canon for Bristol Cathedral. If you would like to book email: bartlett.jane@ntlworld.com or text 07935 538085. There is a suggested donation of £5. Booking is essential as numbers are limited.
Choir dates There are no rehearsals during August and, although members of the choir will no doubt be sitting at the back as usual, everyone will be invited to join in the Communion hymn during the month. Fiona
Parking Issues Can people please park in a way that maximises full use of the car park space, allowing other cars to come alongside. Thank you.
Beach Social Café takes place in church, Tuesdays 10.30am-12noon. All welcome.
Summer meditation in the vicarage garden The Friday meditation with morning prayer group (which normally meets at St Mary’s) is having a summer season at the Good Shepherd, meeting in the vicarage garden for the month of July. We will gather inside the Good Shepherd if it’s raining. The Saturday morning meditation group is also gathering outside in the vicarage garden, weather permitting. It’s a lovely opportunity to experience the natural world in contemplation. All are welcome to join us at 8am.
Dementia Friendly There will be a dementia friendly information/workshop session at Southwick Methodist Church Hall on 17th July at 2pm, led by Linsey Tran from Worthing Dementia Hub.
All are welcome as there are no restrictions on numbers they’d be grateful if you could let Sheila Powell know if you want to attend. Email: sandepowell@gmail.com
Church Flowers The flowers this week are sponsored by Angela Tritton in loving memory of her father Jack Evenden.
Mobile phone found in the church. Contact Revd Jane if you think it belongs to you.
Origami Action
Thanks to Glen Edey for making these origami birds during church coffee time as part of a campaign to encourage MPs to reverse nature loss by backing the proposed Climate & Ecology Bill. More information here: https://www.zerohour.uk/
And here is information about the Climate and Ecology Bill https://www.zerohour.uk/bill/ The bill has a long list of supporters, including Adur District Council and major environmental charities. Engaging in such campaigns is an important part of our commitment to work towards our silver eco church award.
And finally… The total raised from the church summer fayre was £1713.08. A tremendous result! Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the day such a success. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect to the wider community as well as raise much needed funds for the church. We are blessed with a brilliant team of ‘funraisers’.
I work half-time and the days I am usually available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (morning). I wish you all a blessed week, Revd Jane
