Seventh Sunday after Trinity

31st July 2022

We hope you can join us this week as we celebrate the seventh Sunday of Trinity. There’s a lot going on over the summer at the church, so keep your eyes on the notices.

Special Announcement We are very happy to report that the vacancy at St Mary de Haura has been filled by the Revd Andrew Bennison who will be working with Revd Jane in the benefice. Andrew is currently Assistant Curate in the parish of All Saints Stretford in the Diocese of Manchester. Andrew was born and brought up in Cheshire and studied history at the University of Oxford before embarking on a teaching career in London. He trained for ordination at Ripon College Cudddeson. Andrew is delighted to be appointed Vicar of New Shoreham and Shoreham Beach and looks forward to joining the benefice.  Let us all hold Revd Andrew in our prayers as embarks upon this new season in his ministry.

Collect

Generous God,

you give us gifts and make them grow:

though our faith is small as mustard seed,

make it grow to your glory

and the flourishing of your kingdom;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Newcomer’s Afternoon Tea at the vicarage Sunday 21st August 3.30pm-5pm

There have been quite a few new people join the church in the past two years. We haven’t offered any newcomer social events to properly welcome you all because of the difficulties with covid. Revd Jane and John would love to catch-up by inviting any who have joined the church recently to an afternoon tea at the vicarage.  This includes newcomers to the Tuesday, Saturday and Taizé services, as well as Sunday mornings. It will be a chance to meet other new people and learn more about the Good Shepherd. Please let Revd Jane know if you would like to attend by emailing her: bartlett.jane@ntlworld.com

Please indicate whether you have any dietary preferences (gluten free, vegan).

Mini Pilgrimage to Chichester Cathedral

Revd Jane, along with Glen and David Edey are leading a one-day summer pilgrimage to our cathedral. It will be on a Saturday 20th August. This is a route from Stoughton to Chichester on a very enjoyable and varied walk of 8 miles. On the way we will visit St Mary’s, Stoughton and St Andrew’s, West Stoke. We will travel on the train/taxi to Stoughton and then back to Shoreham by train from Chichester.  Bring a picnic lunch. There is the option to go to Evening Prayer at the cathedral. If you are interested in joining the pilgrimage, let Revd Jane, Glen or David know. glennisedey@icloud.com

Friday meditation with morning prayer - summer season We will have a summer outdoor season meeting in the Good Shepherd vicarage garden Friday 5th, 12th and 19th August (not at St Mary de Haura). We will meet inside the Good Shepherd if it’s raining. Let’s hope we can experience the joys of outdoor contemplation in August. New people always welcome to join.

New Stewardship Officer

We are delighted that David Worrall has agreed to become the church’s stewardship officer.  The role of the stewardship officer is to help the parish implement ways of improving levels of giving.  He will be working with the PCC, looking at legacies, amongst other ways to increase our giving.  Dave ran his own business in the past, and also a food bank. His experience will be much appreciated at the Good Shepherd.

A personal notice from Lina and Titus Many of you know Lina and Titus through church and from Shoreham Beach. Some of you also may know that Lina's mother Marilyn Stafford is now 96 years old and lives in the town centre. Marilyn is among other things a famous photographer who recently had an exhibition at the Brighton Museum.

Marilyn is currently exploring the possibility of offering free lodging to someone (female) to act as part-time carer as she recuperates from a recent illness. This could be a good opportunity for the right person. Do you know of anybody who might be interested?   If so please contact Lina on 01273 453293.

And finally…

Daisy ran the first of the summer children’s mornings last Friday. There was a focus on gardening, and the children planted cress seeds in eggs, as well as visiting the vicarage hens. It was lovely to welcome new families.

Blessings and prayers for you all this week. I work half-time and the days I am usually available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (morning).
