 Good Shepherd Sunday,

25th April, 2021

Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Allelulia!

This Sunday we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday and there will be a particular focus on the life of our church. We will give thanks for the blessings we have received as a church and explore how we are continually called to be a blessing to our local community. We hope you can join us either in church or by watching our 10am service on Facebook or You Tube.

Collect

Risen Christ, faithful shepherd of your Father’s sheep: teach us to hear your voice and to follow your command,

that all your people may be gathered into one flock,

to the glory of God the Father.

Readings

Acts 4.5-12, Psalm 23, 1 John 3.16-24,
John 10.11-18

Good Shepherd Fundraising Banner

Chris Diebel has kindly offered to make us a new church banner, featuring the name of our church, a good shepherd and lots of sheep!   For a donation (small or large) to the church you can have embroidered onto a sheep your name, the name of family members, or someone who has died and was connected to the church. Contact Chris if you would like to know more. Email: chrstndiebel@gmail.com

The banner is green and can be hung regularly during some of the green Ordinary Time liturgical season and on Good Shepherd Sunday. The picture shows a similar banner that Chris made for another church.

Thank you Chris for doing this for us!

We are delighted that Sea Lights our Sunday school has returned to the hall. Please contact Daisy to book your place.

Messy Church is back for Pentecost

Pentecost Creative Meditation Day

I am offering an Online Pentecost creative meditation day on the 21st May, repeated on Saturday 22nd May.

Participants will need some liquid colour like food colouring, coloured ink or liquid watercolour. They will also need a roll of white loo paper, and some home-made play dough (not coloured) for which there are lots of non-cooked recipes on YouTube (eg https://youtu.be/ZgESM5j1NSI )

This day will involve a Zoom session in the morning, followed by a meditation which participants will do on their own after the Zoom session. There will be a similar kind of session in the afternoon, and a short Zoom service to finish the day.

If you are interested email Rev'd Jess (j.aidley@gmail.com) to book a place on either day.

Jumping Jess

I have reached the half-way point, having done 50 days. People have been very generous and so far I have raised over £900 online plus £200 in cheques. I am looking forward to seeing how much will be raised in the next 50 days! https://www.justgiving.com/jumping-grannie-jess

Bible Art John 10.11-18

Both the figures in this painting are of Jesus. Jesus is giving/presenting his living body to us to be destroyed for us; I have shown that body as it might have been perceived in Jesus mind - broken and bloody and full of pain. We don't know if Jesus knew that he would be crucified, or whether he might have imagined himself being stoned as Stephen was; we only know that he was willing to hand himself over to be killed for our sakes.

I have shown Jesus as he was when he lived among us as a man, but I have added the glory behind him to indicate that this is all part of God's heavenly plans.

I wanted to indicate the overwhelming compassion that Jesus has for us, which is why I have drawn him in the way I have. That body which he gave for us represents us too, and that thought moved me greatly when I was thinking about how to represent the statement ‘I lay down my life.'

Toys needed

Can you help supply toys for the relaunch of Lamb’s Tales, our parent and toddler drop-in?

We hope that Lambs Tales will soon be meeting every Friday morning in church. Before we start we need some toys and books suitable for babies and pre-school age.

If you have any toys or books that you would like to donate or if you create toys please get in touch with Daisy by emailing cogssundayschool10@gmail.com

Please note that all toys must be in good condition and safe. Hand-made toys need to be washable.  Wooden toys are especially welcomed.

 Electoral Roll

Rescheduled Annual Revision of COGS Electoral Roll
Tuesday, 23rd March until Monday, 19th April

During this period, those already on the COGS electoral roll can check their details and submit revisions if necessary — change of address, change of name, etc. Email me (GeoffHolme@yahoo.co.uk) if you wish to check your currently-held details.

People not currently on the COGS electoral roll who wish to be and who qualify should fill in an application form — available from the Vicarage or from me (16 Fowey Close) — and return it by Monday, 19th April at the latest. This will allow them to vote at the APCM.

(After the end of the revision period there is a period of 14 days — Tuesday, 20th April to Monday, 3rd May — when any errors or omissions can be corrected, but no new applicants can be added until after the APCM.) Geoff Holme (COGS Electoral Roll Office)

And finally…

The church and church hall repairs have been progressing well this week. Here is one of the windows, freshly repaired and painted.

My hours as Associate Vicar are half time and my working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and also Sunday mornings. Please do get in contact if you need any prayer or support. Blessings and prayers for you this Easter season.

HOW TO BOOK FOR SERVICES

How to book for next week’s service,

2nd May, 10am

This is the TryBooking link for booking places

https://www.trybooking.co.uk/ZTF

  • Click on the link then follow the instructions. Booking will be open from Monday to Thursday for the following Sunday.
  • If you are not on the internet and cannot book on-line, please phone the office (01273 440202) between Monday and Thursday and Sue or Jenny will book you in.
  • You will only be able to book one Sunday at a time. This is to prevent the same people booking every week, as it may be that more people than we can accommodate wish to come to the

service. Once the service is full, if you have been unsuccessful and would like to attend the following Sunday, please tell the office immediately (email or phone) and you will be given a priority place ahead of the Monday to Thursday booking times

  • 23 places will be offered (additional places are reserved each week for our welcomer, reader, intercessor, musician, sacristan and livestream technician). It may be that there are still places left after the booking times of Monday to Thursday. In this case anyone can book a place on Friday/ Saturday.
