Sixth Sunday after Trinity
16th July 2023
We celebrate the sixth Sunday after Trinity in the green season of Ordinary Time. Do come and join us this week.
Collect
Creator God,
you made us all in your image:
may we discern you in all that we see,
and serve you in all that we do;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Readings
Isaiah 55.10-13 (Genesis 25.19-34),Psalm 65.[1-7]8-13, Romans 8.1-11
Matthew 13.1-9,18-23
Our Sunday group for children takes place this week in the hall at 10am. New children are always welcome.
Sea Sunday collection
We collected an amazing £515.00 (with Gift Aid) for the Mission to Seafarers. Thank you for your generosity in support of those working at sea in difficult circumstances.
Healing Prayer is offered most Sundays after the 10am in the side chapel.
Help needed after 10am Sunday service from our strong younger members of the congregation, to transfer items used at the fayre from the back room into the church hall loft. See Hilary or Jenny, thank you.
Choir dates There are no rehearsals during August and, although members of the choir will no doubt be sitting at the back as usual, everyone will be invited to join in the Communion hymn during the month. Fiona
Beach Social Café takes place in church, Tuesdays 10.30am-12noon. All welcome.
Summer meditation in the vicarage garden The Friday meditation with morning prayer group (which normally meets at St Mary’s) is having a summer season at the Good Shepherd, meeting in the vicarage garden for the month of July. We will gather inside the Good Shepherd if it’s raining. The Saturday morning meditation group is also gathering outside in the vicarage garden, weather permitting. It’s a lovely opportunity to experience the natural world in contemplation. All are welcome to join us at 8am.
Dementia Friendly There will be a dementia friendly information/workshop session at Southwick Methodist Church Hall on 17th July at 2pm, led by Linsey Tran from Worthing Dementia Hub.
All are welcome as there are no restrictions on numbers they’d be grateful if you could let Sheila Powell know if you want to attend. Email: sandepowell@gmail.com
Retreat Morning Full Our July retreat morning went very well, despite some rain. The morning retreat scheduled for 9th September is full. We need to cap the numbers for practical reasons. Sorry to disappoint those who couldn’t book on.
Creationtide Talk A large group from the church studied Bishop Nicholas Holtam’s book on climate change ‘Sleepers Wake’ at Advent. We are delighted that he is coming to the benefice to do a talk for Creationtide. The talk is being offered across the Hove Deanery and all are welcome.
And finally…
The Good Shepherd has been welcoming lots of visitors recently! We hosted deanery synod on 5th July and the lovely refreshments provided by our wardens and Nix got a round of applause.
On Wednesday this week we welcomed 120 pilgrims from Refugee Tales into church for morning coffee. This is an annual walk of awareness in solidarity with refugees. The group was walking from Three Bridges to Worthing, hearing the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers on the way. There is a particular welfare care for those held in Immigration Detention. The walkers stop overnight at churches and community centres. Thanks to our volunteers from church who worked hard to provide coffee for such a large group. You can find out more about the work of Refugee Tales here https://www.refugeetales.org/
I work half-time and the days I am usually available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (morning). I wish you all a blessed week,
