Harvest Festival

1st October 2023

We celebrate God’s abundance to us in creation with our harvest thanksgiving this Sunday. The 10am service is all-age with a procession of food gifts at the beginning. Weather permitting, we will sing our final hymn outside.

Our offertory collection will be for the local homelessness charity Turning Tides. Food offerings will go to the Shoreham and Adur Community Foodbank. You can leave dried or tinned foods in church on either Friday, September 29th, Saturday September 30th and Sunday, October 1st. We are running this appeal in partnership with Shoreham Beach Residents Association, and you can also drop food off with Joss Loader at 25 Falcon Close.

We finish the day with our monthly Taizé for Healing service at 6pm, picking up on the themes of harvest and ripening. All are welcome to join our special celebrations.

Collect

Creator God,

you made the goodness of the land,

the riches of the sea

and the rhythm of the seasons;

as we thank you for the harvest,

may we cherish and respect

this planet and its peoples,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Eco Tip for Creationtide from the CoGS Eco Church team When shopping for fruit and veg, try to avoid those that have been airfreighted – eat local and seasonal produce whenever possible.

Revd Jane was recently invited to participate in a Climate Change Vigil on Shoreham Beach, organised by the local Transition Town movement. Participants built a pebble cairn as they reflected on the environmental challenges we face. We remembered the people in Libya and Morocco who are coping with a devastating flood and earthquake. Revd Jane is photographed here with Jo Peters, Leonie Harmsworth and Anne Younger, from Transition Town (and Gracie the dog!). Transition Town Shoreham is part of the Transition Network, a movement of communities coming together to re-imagine and re-build a sustainable world. See Transition Town Shoreham’s latest news and discussions in their Facebook group.
