 Sixth Sunday of Easter,

9th May, 2021

'This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.' John 15.12

Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Allelulia!

This Sunday sees the start of Christian Aid week. We are delighted to welcome Mark Johnson from Christian Aid to our 10am service. Mark is the Church Engagement and Fundraising Officer for Sussex and Kent. He will be talking to us live during the service, but through a Zoom link projected into the church. This is a technological first for us!

We hope you can join us either in church or by watching our 10am service on Facebook or You Tube.

Risen Christ,

by the lakeside you renewed your call to your disciples:

help your Church to obey your command

and draw the nations to the fire of your love,

Good Shepherd Fundraising Banner

Chris Diebel has kindly offered to make us a new church banner, featuring the name of our church, a good shepherd and lots of sheep!   For a donation (small or large) to the church you can have embroidered onto a sheep your name, the name of family members, or someone who has died and was connected to the church.

The banner is green and can be hung regularly during part of the green Ordinary Time liturgical season and on Good Shepherd Sunday. The picture below shows a similar banner that Chris made for another church. Contact Chris if you would like to know more. Email: chrstndiebel@gmail.com

Thank you Chris for doing this for us!

Pentecost Creative Meditation Day

Revd Jess is offering an Online Pentecost creative meditation day on the 21st May, repeated on Saturday 22nd May.

Participants will need some liquid colour like food colouring, coloured ink or liquid watercolour. They will also need a roll of white loo paper, and some home-made play dough (not coloured) for which there are lots of non-cooked recipes on YouTube (eg https://youtu.be/ZgESM5j1NSI )

This day will involve a Zoom session in the morning, followed by a meditation which participants will do on their own after the Zoom session. There will be a similar kind of session in the afternoon, and a short Zoom service to finish the day.

If you are interested email Rev'd Jess (j.aidley@gmail.com) to book a place on either day.

Christian Aid Week

Thank you to everyone who has ordered our ‘Take away tea to take away poverty ‘. Please collect from the Church of the Good shepherd between 2-3.30pm on Saturday 15th.

Thank you too for all the offers of help with covering the roads on Shoreham Beach with the little red envelopes. If you haven’t already got your smart red bag complete with envelopes and official collecting card then please contact Jill. Delivery can start on Monday the 10th May (if anyone else would like to help in the delivery we could lighten the load of some of our volunteers. So please get in touch.)

Our Church is really hoping to support Christian Aid this year with our fundraising events especially after such a difficult year for all charities. The twin threats of covid 19 and the climate crisis will be the focus. Christian Aid partners in Kenya are empowering communities to access and build dams or rock catchments near their homes so women and  children are spared the long and often hazardous walk to collect water and families have an accessible water supply for their crops , livestock and hygiene needs ,

Thank you again for your support in the valuable work of Christian Aid.  Teas need to have been ordered by 3rd May. If you have not yet donated for your tea you can do so here:  https://www.give.net/20337197

Please put Christian Aid Tea as the reference.

Jill Charlish 07796932420

Thank you.

Bible Art Acts 10.44-48, John 15.9-17

This week I have tried to fuse the Acts reading and the John reading. Peter is fired up as he talks with the Gentiles in Cornelius's house, as he comes to the end of a journey from his understanding of the dream he had been given, the instruction from God to agree to the request from Cornelius to come and speak to the very people God had given him the dream about.

As Jesus promised in the John reading, Peter is in Jesus and held in the love of God the Father as he talks, and the Holy Spirit is in the words and the space between him and the Caesareans, and fills them ... I have put some of the fire in their heads as a sign of the Holy Spirit having come upon them. What a wonderful passage this is!

Revd Jess

Congratulations to Revd Jess who has raised over £1,000 for St Barnabas House with her trampoline jumping challenge. There’s a great article about it in the Shoreham Herald. You can read it by clicking here

And finally…

Thanks go to Lesley, Penny, Jo and Liz who spent the Bank Holiday Monday morning spring cleaning the church after the building works. Here they are enjoying a well earnt coffee break in the vicarage garden. The church is now gleaming.

My hours as Associate Vicar are half time and my working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and also Sunday mornings. Please do get in contact if you need any prayer or support. Blessings and prayers for you this Easter season.
