Pentecost,
23rd May, 2021
Come Holy Spirit come. This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. You’re invited to wear fiery colours for our worship – red, orange or yellow. We shall go outside for some hymn singing at the end of the 10am service. We hope you can join us either in church or by watching our 10am service on Facebook or You Tube.
We all welcome the Government easing of lockdown restrictions. New guidance has now come out from the Church of England and there is as yet no change to the way we gather for worship, so we continue to follow all our Covid 19 precautions as before.

Holy Spirit, sent by the Father,
ignite in us your holy fire;
strengthen your children with the gift of faith,
revive your Church with the breath of love,
and renew the face of the earth,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Valerie Steele
It is a great sadness to inform you that Val Steele died this week. Val was a greatly loved member of the Good Shepherd and will be missed. We will keep you informed about the funeral arrangements. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
‘At this time of sorrow
the Lord is in our midst
and consoles us with his word:
Blessed are the sorrowful; they shall be comforted. Amen’
Our Sunday school Sea Lights meets in the hall this Sunday at 10am. Please contact Daisy to book your child a place.
Please note there will be no Sunday school 30th May when we take a half-term break. On Sunday 6th June the Sea Lights families are meeting on Beach Green for a picnic and games after the all age service.
Good Shepherd Fundraising Banner
Chris Diebel has kindly offered to make us a new church banner, featuring the name of our church, a good shepherd and lots of sheep! For a donation (small or large) to the church you can have embroidered onto a sheep your name, the name of family members, or someone who has died and was connected to the church.
The banner is green and can be hung regularly during part of the green Ordinary Time liturgical season and on Good Shepherd Sunday. The picture below shows a similar banner that Chris made for another church. Contact Chris if you would like to know more. Email: chrstndiebel@gmail.com
Thank you Chris for doing this for us!
Veggie Stall
I'd like to thank all those who have been helping themselves to produce from the Veggie Stall recently, even though it's been limited to just rhubarb and broccoli.
I'd also like to thank Joy Daintree who brought along plants that she had grown from seed.
Donations have been such that, this week, £100.00 was deposited in our Church Bank Account.

Celtic Evening Prayer
From this week there is a new time for Celtic Evening Prayer – Wednesdays at 6pm on Zoom. Please note that there is also a new link. This is a 20 minute service where there is shared prayer for the world. There is one Bible passage followed by a time of reflection. We also review our day using the Ignatian Examen practice. It’s a contemplative and deeply prayerful short service. All are welcome to join.
Bible Art
Pentecost is another of those liminal moments, where the before and after are transformed in a fraction of a second; the moment when waiting is transformed to a promise has been redeemed ... though the realisation that it has may take longer.
I wonder how long it took the disciples to realise that what was happening was what Jesus referred to when he said to them 'Wait here for the Father to give you the Holy Spirit, just as I told you he has promised to do. John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. ….But the Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power.'
How long did it take for them to realise that the sounds that they were making were real languages which their hearers could understand, even if they (probably) could not?
I have shown the fire of the Holy Spirit descending on Peter, and the words that he speaks in blue but containing the fire of the Holy Spirit. Revd Jess
Starting Soon…
And finally…
More than 75 take-away afternoon teas were served to support Christian Aid. Many thanks to all the volunteers who put together such a wonderful box of food, and to all the shops that donated to us.
My hours as Associate Vicar are half time and my working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and also Sunday mornings. Please do get in contact if you need any prayer or support. Blessings and prayers for you all.
