Heavenly Father,

your Son battled with the powers of darkness,

and grew closer to you in the desert:

help us to use these days to grow in wisdom and prayer

that we may witness to your saving love in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings

Genesis 9.8-17, Psalm 25.1-9, 1 Peter 3.18-22, Mark 1.9-15

 First Sunday of Lent, 21st

 February 2021

We begin our Lenten journey this week.  The word ‘Lent’ comes from an old English word for spring. So the 40 day liturgical season is like a spring time for our spiritual life. The coldness of our hearts and the frozenness of our bad habits can be warmed by the love of Christ. Do make the most of this time, which comes as a gift and an opportunity to deepen our faith journeys.

Sunday school activities have been posted to our children – the materials to make a special Lent garland or tree. If you are making one of these, do share a photo with us for others to see.

Tea and Fellowship at 4pm helps us stay in touch during these winter months. Thank you to Judy Short for hosting these gatherings – just what we need during lockdown! Make yourself a cuppa and join on this Zoom link.

Online painting retreat with Revd Jess

I will be leading another Walking on Water online retreat next month. (There is no charge for the retreat)

The introductory day will be on Saturday 13th March, and the retreat itself will run daily from Monday 15th to Saturday 20th inclusive.

Each day will consist of a live Zoom session at 10am and 2pm GMT, plus night prayer at 5pm for those who would like it. After each Zoom session you can watch a demonstration of the meditation for the session on YouTube, before doing the meditation for yourself.

For those of you who might feel nervous about the word 'painting', I just want to reassure you that this retreat is not about painting pictures, and that everything you do will just be between you and God ... no-one else will see what you do. Here is a prayer painting ...

If you think you would like to join in, email me on j.aidley@gmail.com Rev'd Jess.
