Fifth Sunday after Easter
15th May 2022
The joy of the Easter resurrection season continues this week. We hope you can join us.
Collect
Risen Christ,
your wounds declare your love for the world
and the wonder of your risen life:
give us compassion and courage
to risk ourselves for those we serve,
to the glory of God the Father.
Readings
Acts 11.1-18, Psalm 148, Revelation 21.1-6
John 13.31-35
Our Sunday group for children, Sea Lights meets in the hall this week at 10am. New children always welcome.
Bible Art
Acts 11.6- 9 In St Peter's vision in Joppa (which was repeated three times) he saw a large sheet being lowered down from the heavens, and inside were animals which Simon Peter believed were unclean and that he was not allowed to eat them, but a voice told him to get up and kill one of them and eat it. When he objected, he was told that what God had made clean he was not to call unclean. I have shown the spirit of God making the animals clean as an indication that they can be eaten without offending God. The whole vision was another turning point in understanding that the gospel was not only for the Jewish people, but for the Gentles too. What ingenious and creative ways our God uses to help us to understand the ideas that we need to grasp? Revd Jess

Raising money for Christian Aid
David and Glen from our congregation are walking 75 miles during Christian Aid week with Pilgrims following part of the ancient pilgrim path from Chaldon, in Surrey to Winchester.
They will share stories of their concern for the world and meditate and pray for peace and compassion.
Please join them in prayer.
They aim to tread lightly on the earth and hope that those who cannot join them will support them by giving during Christian Aid week.
If you would like to donate to Christian Aid via the

Ascension Day on Mill Hill
We celebrate Ascension Day with a short reflective service at Mill Hill Nature Reserve, followed by a bring-your-own picnic breakfast. We meet at the upper car park on Mill Hill at 8am on Thursday 26th May. Bring a camping chair or rug. Please lift share, walk or cycle where possible. If the weather is wet we will meet in church – a message will be posted on the church website on Wednesday evening if we are to meet in church.
Our weekly parent/carer and toddler group Lamb’s Tales meets every Friday in the church at 9.15am to 10.45am.
And finally…
We enjoyed Good Shepherd Sunday last week and a visit from Archdeacon Martin. It was followed by a fantastic meal cooked by Lesley and Barry. Everyone agreed that it was joyful to be able to gather for food and fellowship after the long pandemic.
I work half-time and the usual days when I am available are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings.
Blessings and prayers for you all this Eastertide. Revd Jane
