Mothering Sunday,
14th March 2021
I |
f you have any spring daffodils, do bring them with you to the Zoom service this Sunday! We shall be using them to celebrate Mothering Sunday on this the fourth Sunday of Lent. It is also known as Refreshment Sunday, when traditionally some of the strict Lenten practices can be relaxed - so we might enjoy a flower or two this week. It’s also one of the two Sunday’s each year when the liturgical colours can be rose coloured. Our All Age worship is a Service of the Word. We hope you will be able to join us on Zoom.
We’re looking forward to returning to church on Palm Sunday. The booking details for this and all our Easter services will be in next week’s newsletter.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
The diocese is going to run the highly successful and highly popular Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme starting this summer. There will be four centres spread across the diocese each with seven places.
We have seven places available in Shoreham for anyone who is currently in school year 9, 10 or 11.
There will be a sign up cost of about £60 then there will some ongoing costs of equipment and camping trips. We hope to be able to help those in financial difficulty.
In the first place we would like to offer the places to families connected to the church even if the young person doesn't come to church.
The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award begins in summer 2021 and is completed in summer 2022. There will be one team based in Shoreham with seven places available. Contact Revd Steve at shorehamcurate@gmail.com to register interest and to receive more information.
Choir Rehearsals These are currently taking place on Zoom every Thursday 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

Bible Art John 19.25-27
To Mary ... "Woman, here is your son." to John "Here is your mother." From that hour, the disciple took her into his home. To the best of our knowledge, Mary was a widow, and John is a non-relative; yet he takes her in.
I have shown the cross as empty because I wanted it to be a symbol for us now, and to think about the implication of the things Jesus said from the cross to us now, especially in relation to the answer Jesus gave to the question 'Who is my neighbour?'
It seems to me that the logical conclusion is that every woman is - in Christ - a mother to every young man, and that every young man is - in Christ - a son to every woman. The extension to that being that each of us is - in Christ - a child to all adults-as-parents when young, and that every adult is - in Christ - parent to every child. I find this quite a challenging thought.
Revd Jess
Jumping Grannie! Revd Jess is doing 100 jumps on the trampoline for 100 days to raise money for St Barnabas Hospice, inspired by the care they have continued to give throughout the Pandemic. She is doing these on “Myrtle”, her houseboat, daily between 12 and 12.15, which can be seen from the road. To support her go to https://www.justgiving.com/jumping-grannie-jess

APCM
This year the Annual Parochial Church Meeting will take place Tuesday 20th April, 7.30pm on Zoom. There is a notice in the church porch with further details.
Electoral Roll
The Annual Revision of the COGS Electoral Roll runs this year for the four weeks from TUE, 09-MAR until MON, 05-APR.
During this period, those already on the COGS electoral roll, can check their details and submit revisions where necessary - change of address, change of name, etc.
In addition, people not currently on the COGS electoral roll who wish to be and who qualify can fill in an application form and return it by MON, 05-APR at the latest. This will allow them to vote at the APCM.
After the end of the revision period there is a period of 14 days -- TUE, 05-APR to MON, 19 APR -- when any errors or omissions can be corrected, but no new applicants can be added to the electoral roll. Electoral Roll application forms can be picked up from the church porch or from Geoff Holme

And finally…
There will be a Stations of the Cross on display in the church for Holy Week. The stations have all been created by members of our church community. Here is one by Lynda Hargreaves. Thank you to Judy Short, Revd Jess and our artists for making this happen. The church will be open for you to visit Tuesday to Sunday 9am to 5pm.
My hours as Associate Vicar are half time and my working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and also Sunday mornings. Please do get in contact if you need any prayer or support. Blessings and prayers for you this week.
