Weekly Notices 7th April 2024

Second Sunday of Easter

7th April 2024

Christ is risen, alleluia! Our Easter season continues this week. We have a regular Parish Communion at 10am rather than all age as we are in the school Easter holidays. Sea Lights returns next Sunday (14th April). Come and join us as we celebrate this joyful season and Christ bringing life from death. All are welcome.

Collect

Risen Christ,

for whom no door is locked, no entrance barred:

open the doors of our hearts,

that we may seek the good of others

and walk the joyful road of sacrifice and peace,

to the praise of God the Father.

Readings

Exodus 14.10-end, Acts 4.32-35, Psalm 133
1 John 1.1 - 2.2, John 20.19-31

Taizé for Healing this Sunday, 6pm

A time for peace and reflection with beautiful chants from the Taizé Community. No experience of Taizé singing needed. There is the opportunity for individual healing prayer at the end of the service for those who wish to receive.

Sea lights takes an Easter break, returning 14th April.

Healing Prayer is offered most Sundays after the 10am in the side chapel.

Labyrinth walk in the hall at 7am on Sunday as a contemplative preparation for the 8am service.

The floral cross as you enter the church has been made from this year’s Christmas tree, stripped, and nailed together.  From incarnation to resurrection. Thanks to John Haffenden and the flower team for providing this Resurrection cross for us. And thanks to the flower team for all the other wonderful displays this Easter.

Sacred Space Saturday 11th May 2024
Micklepage, Nuthurst, Nr. Horsham
A day led by Rev’d Steve Gurr to explore what we understand by ‘sacred space’, how it benefits our own spiritual journey and how it may benefit those we journey alongside. £80. Please email Steve at ss.gurr@gmail.com for more details.

Electoral Roll This is revised annually ahead of the APCM. Full details are displayed on the church door. If you are baptised and have been worshipping regularly at the Good Shepherd for at least the past six months, you are eligible to join the Electoral Roll. Please speak to Revd Jane or to our Electoral Roll Officer, Jenny Stride, to obtain a form with details of how to join.  The review ends 7th April, and the roll is available for inspection after that date. Email: jennymarshall42@gmail.com

APCM The Annual Parochial Church Meeting takes place after the 10am service on 28th April. It is a time when we present the annual report and financial statements. We also elect church wardens and new PCC members. Please speak to Revd Jane if you are interested in standing and serving the church in this important way. A full notice with details of the meeting is displayed in the porch.

Beetle Drive Fundraiser, 14th April, 3pm-5pm.

Rogationtide Sponsored Walk Dave Worrall our Stewardship Officer is walking round the parish boundary thirty times! Dave is clocking up almost 300 miles in the period between Easter Monday (1st April) and Rogation Sunday (5th May).  He is fundraising for three church projects that require over £30,000: repairing and waterproofing the eastern wall of the Church of the Good Shepherd and its Calvary War Memorial, replacing fragile mullion windows in the church, and updating the sound system.  Rogationtide is traditionally a time for “beating the bounds” when parishioners walk around the parish, praying for successful sowing of crops and the subsequent harvest. You can find out more details and sponsor Dave here: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/.../daveworralls300mileGOG...  Thank you, Dave, for doing this walk on behalf of the church.

Good Shepherd Sunday falls on 21st April and Archdeacon Martin will join us at 10am. We are having a community lunch to follow, a special hot meal and pudding (veggie option too). Ticket prices are £5.50 for adults and £4 for children. If you would like to book there will be a sign-up sheet at the back of the church, or please let Kay (churchwarden) know on mobile 07949 505187.  A reminder you will need to bring your own crockery, cutlery, and something to drink.

Godly Play coming soon!

And finally…
