Friday Club

Now in its 17th year – we think. It meets on Friday afternoons – we know!

Current membership is about 40, many of whom are collected from their own homes on the local community transport. During the afternoon games, cards, entertainment, education, and fellowship are on the menu and, of course, refreshments. Those who came on the community transport bus are taken home when the club finishes.

The club makes links with individuals; works closely with community agencies, and both enables and provides pastoral care to older folk from the local community. Speakers, diverse activities and outings are arranged and fun is always available to be had! Please do phone 01903 753870 if you are interested in finding out more.

Over the past year, in response to advice from the Local Authority, we have separated out the affairs of the Friday Club from the Church oversight. Friday Club is now an independent Voluntary Organisation, with its own Chair, Treasurer and Committee, and  a formal constitution. It still meets in the Church of the Good Shepherd Hall, many of its volunteer helpers (and members!) are members of the Church family, but it was important to demonstrate that it is an entirely separate body, with no Christian 'axe to grind' and financially independent of the Church. We hope this greater autonomy will encourage many more people to take advantage of its great service, but the church will continue, of course, to support it with prayer and personnel whenever needed.
