First Sunday Services

We hope that all our worship is easy to follow, but know that when you do much the same thing each week it's very easy to slip into 'jargon' and 'this is the way we do things here' which can be confusing to newcomers .

So, in August 2009, we started to have a special service at 10am on the First Sunday of every month which we hope is easy to follow, a little shorter and will be designed to appeal to people of all ages. As many people in the church family really enjoy sharing Holy Communion (the bread and wine) together, this service will often be a Communion Service, but we will use the most straightforward form of words that the Church of England allows. Of course, if you're not used to sharing Communion it's not a problem at all, because you can either stay in your seat at that point, or come up with everyone else and have a blessing instead. In some months, we will not share Communion, but will have a straight service of songs, prayers, readings, a talk, and perhaps some drama. Often the young people will take a lead and will have been actively involved in planning the service, but First Sundays won't always be the same.

If you're coming along to church for the first time, or after a long break, you might find this is the best service to start with. But if you're looking for something quieter and more traditional, then perhaps sticking with our 10am service which simply calls itself "Parish Communion" would be your best option. The choice is, of course, up to you, and you will get a warm welcome whenever you come along. And if you're coming along with children yourself, our Ten O'clock Rock Team will be ready to welcome them in the Church Hall if they'd like to join them.

A health warning: There will be some months when the pattern will be different because of other festivals going on (like Mothering Sunday or Easter) - so it's best  to check what's going on in any particular month.

To find out what's going on each Sunday, you will find a copy of our monthly Service Poster in the section called "All the news" under "What's on". For more detailed information about Weekly worship, groups, and news, have a look at "Latest church news" in the same section.
