Good Shepherd Sunday

21st April 2024

Christ is risen, alleluia! Our Easter season continues this week with Good Shepherd Sunday.  We are delighted to have Archdeacon Martin Lloyd Williams with us to preside and preach at the 10am service.  Good Shepherd Sunday is often celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Easter. It is the time when we have Gospel readings about Christ being the good shepherd, and Psalm 23. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the life of our own little church on the beach. Come and join us. All are welcome.

Collect

Risen Christ,

faithful shepherd of your Father’s sheep:

teach us to hear your voice

and to follow your command,

that all your people may be gathered into one flock,

to the glory of God the Father.

Readings

Rogationtide Sponsored Walk Dave Worrall our Stewardship Officer is walking round the parish boundary thirty times! Dave is clocking up almost 300 miles in the period between Easter Monday (1st April) and Rogation Sunday (5th May).  He is fundraising for three church projects that require over £30,000: repairing and waterproofing the eastern wall of the Church of the Good Shepherd and its Calvary War Memorial, replacing fragile mullion windows in the church, and updating the sound system.  Rogationtide is traditionally a time for “beating the bounds” when parishioners walk around the parish, praying for successful sowing of crops and the subsequent harvest. You can find out more details and sponsor Dave here: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/.../daveworralls300mileGOG...  Thank you, Dave, for doing this walk on behalf of the church.

Walk with Dave and Revd Jane for Rogationtide You are invited to join Dave on his final parish boundary walk and a Rogationtide prayer service en route led by Revd Jane. This will be Saturday 4th May, meeting at the Good Shepherd at 9.45am. The walk will last four hours or more, but you can join in for as much or as little as you wish. Bring water and a packed lunch. This will also mark the end of Dave’s sponsored walk. Rogation provides an opportunity for us to pray for the life of our parish. Let Revd Jane know if you’d like to come. bartlett.jane@ntlworld.com

Children’s Society house boxes please bring them to church by the end of the month so that we can do the annual count. Thanks.

The Good Shepherd banner beautifully made by Chris Diebel is displayed again in church in for Good Shepherd Sunday. If you would like to have your name, or the name of loved ones added to the banner, for a donation to the church (of any amount), please contact Chris. Email: chrstndiebel@gmail.com

And finally… A big thank you to all who helped organise the Beetle Drive event. It raised £155 for the church. A fun social afternoon was had by all!
